A law sponsored by state District 44 Sen. Eric Koch, R-Bedford, establishing safe baby courts for Children In Need of Services aka CHINS three years of age or younger was ceremonially signed Aug. 15 by the governor.

“I’m proud to have been the sponsor of this law addressing the difficulties faced by these young children,” Koch said. “I hope this new problem-solving court system will help ensure the children and their families have the support they need.”

The new law is focused on helping find permanent homes for CHINS, who are often victims of abuse or neglect.

The new problem-solving courts will bring together biological families, foster families, DCS and other concerned parties to ensure decisions in the best interest of the children can be made more quickly.

Senate District 44 includes all of Jackson, Brown, Lawrence and Orange counties and portions of Monroe County.
