A local man has been arrested in connection with the recent theft of items from The Andersons, a fertilizer manufacturer, located on the city’s east side.

Jacob Ryan Cockerham, 38, of Seymour faces two Level 5 felony counts of burglary and two Level 6 felony counts of theft in connection with the incident reported to Seymour police, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster

On Monday, patrol officers and investigators responded to the plant at 101 Agrico Lane to investigate a report of a burglary.

When patrol officers arrived at the location, they were told that wire, battery powered tools, brass fittings and other miscellaneous items were missing, Foster said.

He said patrol officers also were told that property had been damaged.

Investigators processed the crime scene and recovered numerous items that contained evidentiary value, Foster said.

Later in the day, investigators received information regarding a possible suspect, he said.

Investigators went to the home of the suspect, identified as Cockerham, on East County Avenue and observed items from the burglary in plain view, Foster said.

Investigators then obtained a Jackson Superior Court II search warrant to search the suspect’s residence, and during that search, investigators located numerous items taken in the burglary, Foster said.

On Wednesday, investigators located Cockerham near his residence and took him into custody. While being interviewed, he admitted to committing the burglary, Foster said.

Cockerham was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 6:40 p.m. and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.

On August 15, investigators obtained a Jackson Superior Court II warrant to search the suspect’s vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, investigators located evidence related to the burglary.
