Edward Carl Mead, 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on August 8, 2024. He was born in Cortland, New York to the late Chester and Irene Mead. He graduated from Cortland High School in June 1957 and was the first male graduate from Syracuse University School of Nursing in Syracuse, New York, in 1962. He married his wife of 64 years Kathleen Alyce O’Hara Mead on July 2, 1960.

He was a Captain in the United States Air Force as a flight nurse for 7 years in Missouri, Germany, Vietnam, and North Carolina. Then he served 2 years in the Army Reserve as a Major. He was Purchasing Director at Schneck Hospital for 18 years. He also was a retired minister of the Methodist Faith for 20 years where he served at Hayden (twice), Austin, English, and Elizabethtown. He as a member of the Seymour First United Methodist Church where he sometimes preached and was a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his wife Kathy, daughters Lora (Ken) Bloomer and Karen (Troy) Munson, Granddaughters Meghan (Ryan) Dailey, Lyndsey Bloomer (Jake Cope) and Emery Munson, and great-grandchildren Elly, Oliver, Henry, Levi, and Elijah. Also, brothers Morris (Jeanne) Mead, Gary (Linda) Mead, and Larry Mead all of New York State. Brothers in law Don O’Hara – Alaska and Bill Mitchinson of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda and Sue.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Seymour First United Methodist Church, 201 East 3rd St. Seymour, IN.
