Rural summit to focus on southern Indiana

A rural summit planned for Thursday evening in Scottsburg will highlight regional solutions to elevate southern Indiana communities.

The event at the Scottsburg YMCA is the second session on the six-stop tour to connect Indiana House candidates with voters.

Nine Indiana House Democratic Party candidates representing an area that’s nearly a quarter of the state and 22 counties will share their messages that rural communities and small towns can have better healthcare, schools and jobs.

“Rural, Southern Indiana is frequently left out of conversations at the Statehouse,” said House District 69 Democratic Nominee Trish Whitcomb of Seymour. “That MUST change. We deserve the same access to comprehensive healthcare, affordable housing, quality education for our children, and jobs with livable wages that the rest of the state enjoys.”

The first stop on the Rural Summit tour was held in Jasper Aug. 4. Future stops will be held throughout August and September.
