SEYMOUR
Larry Wayne Lewis, age 80, of Seymour, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Lewis had a strong faith, and he was a lifetime and very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, where he was baptized in Christ, confirmed in faith, and united in holy marriage to his wife, Shirley. He was a Sunday School teacher, served as Chairman of the congregation, and served various other roles in the church.
Larry was a 1961 graduate of Cortland High School and served as past president of the Cortland Alumni Association.
He was employed as a pricing analyst with Cummins Engine Co. for 36 years prior to his retirement. Larry loved being on his farm, driving his tractor, gardening, working with his fruit trees, and taking his golden retrievers on golf cart rides.
Larry was a past member of the Hamilton Township Fire Department and the Soil and Water Conservation Club. He was also a facilitator of the Monroe Lake Water Shed and the A.F. Robertson Scholarship Fund.
Larry was loved beyond measure by his wife, Shirley, children, and grandchildren, and he loved and cherished spending time with his family. He especially loved watching his grandchildren race and play sports, attending the Indianapolis 500 races with his two sons, and camping and riding quarter horses with his family and friends earlier in his life. Larry was a friend to many. He never met a stranger and always loved helping anyone in need.
Born on January 27, 1944, in Seymour, Larry was the son of Ray and Jesse (Anderson) Lewis, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 5, 1962, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, he married Shirley Rust, and she survives in Seymour.
Survivors also include two sons: Jeff (Tammy) Lewis of Brownstown, and Chris (Melissa) Lewis of Columbus; five grandchildren: Steffen (Gracie) Lewis of Seymour, Otis Skyller Lewis of Brownstown, Audrey Lewis of Columbus, Samuel Lewis of California, and Abigail Lewis of Indianapolis; and one great-grandson, Lawrence Lewis.
Besides his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by an infant brother; and three sisters and brothers-in-law: Ruth (Bob) Hohenstreiter, Edna (Walter) Cockerham, and Carolyn (Dale) Roberts.
Funeral services for Larry Wayne Lewis will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, with Pastor Steve Wood officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers.
Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, Cemetery Fund or Donor’s choice.
