LEXINGTON

Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Bruce Salkeld, age 69, of Lexington, Indiana, entered this life on October 8, 1954 in Seymour, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James Harley and Jo Ellen Clem Salkeld. He was raised in Crothersville and graduated in 1972 from Crothersville High School. While in high school his was involved in FFA and also had a band of FFA buddies that played around town. He then graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Education. He was raised in the New Hope Church of the Brethren. On November 26, 2012 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Couch Northern at the New Hope Church of the Brethren which is now the Bethany Baptist Church in Crothersville, Indiana. He worked for a time as and Agriculture Teacher in Monrovia, Indiana. He retired from Southwestern High School in Hanover where he taught Agriculture for over 20 years. He served as the FFA advisor as well for over 20 years. Ken then served as the extension agent in Pike County for over ten years and at last for the Jennings County Extension Office as the agent for 11 years. He was a master gardener and taught those classes through Purdue Extension. He was a member of the Young Farmer’s Club as well. During Hurricane Katrina he completed several mission trips there to help families and churches. Ken loved collecting toy tractors, sitting on the back porch watching nature and birds, working in his flowers beds and gardens, and loved his cats. Ken loved his farm and being outdoors. He was a devoted husband, dad, papaw, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Ken died suddenly on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his home near Lexington, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY

Ken will be missed by his loving wife, Carolyn Sue Couch Northern Salkeld of Lexington, Indiana; his daughter, Lora Baumhardt and her husband, Matthew of Willman, Minnesota; his step son, Andy Northern and his wife, Amelia of Danville, Indiana; his step daughter, Angel Marie Northern of Lexington, Indiana; his grandchildren, Emery, Ella, Makinzie and Haddie; his sister, Sally Needler and her husband, Gary of Seymour, Indiana; his niece and his nephew, Joey Janell Needler and James Jerald Needler; his great niece and his great nephew, Adeline and Wyatt; his sisters in law and brothers in law, Henrietta Faris and her husband, Jerry; Sharon Lucas (Ed), Barb Sims and her husband, Rob; Raymond Pennington and his wife, Lisa; Kenny Pennington and his wife, Rhonda; Lynn Pennington and his wife, Michele; several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, James Harley Salkeld, died October 24, 1994, his mother, Jo Ellen Clem Salkeld, died May 27, 2013, his step granddaughter, Savannah Brooke Scott, died December 7, 2015, his father in law and his mother in law, Lindburgh “Elmer” Couch, died July 2, 2018 and Shirley Evelyn Williams Couch, died November 3, 2020.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Mike Cammack at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Uniontown Cemetery in Uniontown, Indiana.

VISITATION

Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
