Golf is one of the toughest sports in existence. It truly tests your patience and ability to respond after a bad shot and continues playing well throughout your 9 or 18-hole round.

The Trinity Lutheran boys’ golf team celebrated their 2023-24 season last month, handing out awards to their athletes for their respective seasons.

Trinity improved throughout the season, looking forward to the future with their incredibly young golf team. The Cougars finished their season at the Bloomington Sectional at Cascades Golf Course, finishing 12th with a team score of 441.

Trinity Lutheran Head Coach Kim Overgaard spoke about the season for the team.

“This past season was one of growth,” Overgaard said. “We were very young, and I was pleased with how hard this team worked. That work turned into a strong improvement as the season progressed.”

Three awards were given out in various categories, such as, Best Putter, Cougar Award, and Most Improved.

Rylan Adair was given the Best Putter award, while Wylie Jones received the Cougar Award. Sam Lorenz took home the Most Improved honor.

The coach spoke about enjoying coaching this group of kids on the boys’ golf team.

“Their sense of humor was one of my favorite things,” he said. “We had some good laughs, along with all their hard work. Also, I appreciated the leadership this season from Wylie Jones as our team captain. He led by example and, at times, verbally. I am glad he has another season.”

The team graduates nobody, as Jones will be the lone senior at this point for the upcoming season. Coach Overgaard mentioned the team must continue this summer to improve.

“As always with golf, the key to getting better is to keep playing during the off season,” Overgaard said. “Those that play will improve the most.”

Overgaard is looking forward to seeing the team in 2025 and the development from them in this offseason.

“Also, this being a young team, the physical development of the kids will add to any improvement to come,” he said. “Things look good for next season.”

The team consisted of Adair, Jones, Lorenz, Jeremiah Clay, Alex Overgaard, and Nolan Teipen.
