River camp raid made by Sheriffs

A raid on a camp along the North Muscatatuck river on the Crothersville-Little York road Friday afternoon by Sheriff Otis Hays of Jackson county and Sheriff Dillard Robins, of Scott county and a Jackson county deputy sheriff resulted in the discovery of 5 gallons of white mule, five empty mash barrels and the fact that a gang had been making liquor in large quantities there for some time.

Road 31 By-Pass repair will start

Repair of a 16-mile stretch of the U.S. Road 31 by-pass around Columbus, which extends as far south as the Jackson-Bartholomew county line north of Reddington, will be started next week, it has been announced by Henry Schulz, superintendent of the Columbus sub-district of the Seymour district of the Indiana state highway commission.

FFA has new building

One of several additions to this year’s Jackson County Fair will be permanent building for “Young McDonald’s Farm,” presently under construction by county FFA members.

Construction of the building is a cooperative effort of the three county FFA chapters and their advisors, stated Nelson Lewis, Seymour chapter advisor.

Chester checks out library

The children’s reading time at the Jackson County Public Library in Seymour had a special guest on Friday.

Chester the Bassett Hound visited the library to see what his owner, Kelly Joyce does at work while spreading the massage that dogs can make a work environment less stressful.

Studies have shown that the act of petting an animal reduces blood pressure, has a calming effect and can even increase longevity, said Librarian Julia Akers.
