BROWNSTOWN

Norma Jean Wischmeier, age 91, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at Forest Path of the Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.

Mrs. Wischmeier was baptized in Christ, confirmed in faith, and united in holy marriage to her beloved husband, Marvin, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers. After her marriage, she became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with her husband, where they attended church regularly. Norma also belonged to Wegan Ladies Aid at the church and served in various offices over the years. She had a strong faith and was proud of raising her family in the Lutheran church.

Norma loved and cherished her family, and she was loved beyond measure by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The joy of her life was spending time with her family, especially getting to babysit her grandchildren. She diligently instilled in them the value of regularly attending church and the ethic of hard work. Norma was no stranger to hard work, as she was dedicated to working alongside her late husband on their family farm, milking cows, taking care of chickens, and planting and harvesting crops. She also loved cooking, especially for her family and church dinners. Her goal was to make sure everyone had plenty to eat.

A highlight in Norma’s life was her manicured yard. She could be found several times a week on her riding lawn mower mowing her grass and spending countless hours on her flowers.

Norma loved attending county fairs, was a big supporter of 4-H, and enjoyed square dancing with the Star Promenaders.

Norma was a very caring and kind-hearted lady. She always had a radiant smile and never met a stranger, as she always had a kind word to say. She was determined to excel in everything she tried, was always ready and willing to help anyone in need and had a positive outlook on life. She was a joy and to know her was to love her.

Born on December 7, 1932, at her home, Norma was the daughter of John Henry H. and Malinda M. (Buhner) Darlage, both of whom preceded her in death. On September 14, 1952, she married the love of her life, Marvin Lee Wischmeier, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2019.
