Two Seymour residents were arrested Wednesday after officers from the Seymour Police Department found multiple illegal substances during a search inside their residence.

During the subsequent search of the residence, approximately 16 grams of cocaine, numerous syringes, more than 600 grams of marijuana, acid and several hundred dollars of U.S. currency were located, according to an incident release from the Seymour Police Department.

Reid Newkirk, 26, and Brandy McQueen, 30, were arrested for neglect of a dependent, dealing in cocaine and dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance. Reid was also charged with possession of cocaine or narcotic drugs and possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle.

On Wednesday, interdiction and patrol officers received information about possible drug activity occurring at a residence in the 800 block of Windermere Drive.

Officers responded to this residence and conducted a “stop and knock.” In other words, officers stopped and contacted the occupants of the dwelling. During this interaction, officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence, police reported.

Officers then detained Newkirk and McQueen and applied for a search warrant which was soon granted. A two- and a-half-year-old juvenile also was present in the residence who officers took care of, playing with puzzles and toys during the course of this incident until a caretaker could arrive and assume responsibility.

Newkirk and McQueen were transported and booked into the Jackson County Jail.

All parties herein depicted or described are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
