FREETOWN

Terrance “Terry” Andrew Long, 61, passed gently into eternity early Monday morning at his Freetown home, surrounded by family and immersed in prayer as he made his final departure. He had courageously fought a three-year battle with ALS that ravaged his body but failed to conquer his spirit.

Born November 5, 1962, to Daniel D. Long and Madyline (Talbert) Layfield in Indianapolis, Terry was the 2nd of five children. After graduation from Warren Central High School, he moved to Bloomington as a manager of Noble Romans where he met his wife, Cheryl (George). They were married December 30, 1987 and were blessed with eleven children: Amanda (Ryan) Mosier of Bloomington; Stephanie (Kevin) Richardson, of Butlerville; Emily (Wesley) Carmichael of North Vernon; Haley (Reagan) Ramm of Lehigh Acres, FL; MacKenzie (Titus) Woodward of Borrstadt, Germany; Corrie (Adam) Walls of North Vernon; Isaac (Addie) Long of Orleans; Eric Samuel Long of Freetown; Destiny (David Weiler) Long of Brownstown; and Sabrina Long and Michael Long, both still at home. They have also enjoyed the blessing of 15 grand-treasures.

Terry and Cheryl experienced a major life change in 1997 as they both received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and watched in amazement as the trajectory of their lives and family legacy was radically and eternally altered. They have been members of Landmark Baptist Church of Nineveh since 1997.

Terry enjoyed gardening, caring for his “girls” (chickens), woodworking, home-remodeling, and working in various positions through the years at Davidson Industry, Stock Lumber, and Carter Lumber and finally as a truck driver at XPO Logistics, from which he went disabled in December 2021.

He will be remembered as a hard-working, persevering man who loved his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Terry is survived by his wife of 36 years, his children and grandchildren, his sisters, Amber Long and Tanya Long, both of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eric Long, and sister Kimberly Long.

Arrangements are made through Indiana Funeral Care of Greenwood. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25th from 1-3 at the Freetown Church of Christ with the funeral commencing at 3 pm. Terry’s long-time pastor and friend, Pastor Michael Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Christianburg Cemetery in Brown County.
