John Richard Myers, 77, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour. John was born in Columbus, Indiana on December 5, 1946, to the late Woodrow W. and Genevieve (Bennett) Myers.

John majored in physical education as an undergraduate at Findlay College in Ohio. He earned his Master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 1971. Early in his career, he was a swimming and football coach in the Seymour community. Later, he taught physical education at Lincoln, Emerson, and Redding before retiring in 2003. His goal as a teacher was to ensure all the students kept moving.

Physical fitness was always important to John, and until his recent illness, he ran long distances and swam regularly. John’s interests included managing Crossroads Gym, anything related to Indiana University sports, theater, history, antiques, covered bridges, travel, and maintaining his home. John was very much loved and respected by his family, and he had many friends he valued.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his brother, David (Annabelle) Myers; as well as family members, Kelly, Lola and Veronica Geist; Jonathan, Michelle, Cecilia and Nathan Myers; Matthew Myers; Roger, Kathleen and Sam Turner; Matthew, Elizabeth, Caleb and Charity Turner; and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; and sister, Linda J. Myers.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Saturday, June 22, at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Jacob Sutton of Lutheran Community Home will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 282 North Fair Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, 45011. Please note all contributions as “in honor of Linda J. Myers, and Genevieve, Woodrow, John, and David Myers.”
