Lady Owls celebrate softball season with awards banquet on Monday

Seymour held their varsity softball banquet on Monday evening. The Owls looked back on their 2023-24 season.

The team grabbed five wins during the season, defeating Brown County, Madison, Columbus North, Decatur Central, and Salem.

Seymour Head Coach Emily Bobb spoke about the season for the Owls.

“I’m truly proud of the time, effort, energy, and hard work our team put into the season,” Bobb said. “We look forward to learning and growing as we begin preparation for next season.”

Phoebe Underwood, and Taylor Stuckwisch had productive seasons for the Owls this year. Underwood slashed .354, recording 23 hits, 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 12 RBI’s. Stuckwisch hit .267 with 20 hits, driving in 7 RBI’s with 3 doubles and 1 home run.

Both girls took the circle all season for the Owls. Stuckwisch pitched 74 innings, striking out 84 batters with an ERA of 3.50. Underwood pitched 59.2 innings with 38 strikeouts, and an ERA of 4.20

Awards were given out on Monday evening on the varsity and junior varsity team. Stuckwisch was named Defensive Player of The Year, while Underwood won Offensive POTY. Alexa Dannettelle took home the Owl Award.

Maggie Calhoun won the JV Defensive Player of The Year, while Macie Rawls and Whitney Reed won the JV Co-Offensive Player of The Year. Claire Urbanski won the JV Owl Award.

With a lot of returning athletes and production are back for the 2024-25 season. Bobb spoke on the nucleus of kids coming back next year.

“With the majority of our team returning, I’m excited to see their experience come into play,” she said. “Many of these players have two or more seasons under their belt, which is a great advantage when it comes to high school softball. I’m really looking forward to seeing them work together to overcome challenges and persevere through whatever the season brings our way.”

The team will need to build off this season into next. Bobb is looking to the sophomore and junior class for leadership.

“I look forward to seeing our sophomores and juniors build on the leadership foundation they have developed,” Bobb said. “I also look forward to continue building upon our competitive mindset and mental toughness.”

The Owls graduated two seniors in Alexa Dannettelle and Avery Stewart. Dannettelle is playing at the next level at IU Columbus. Bobb spoke about the group of two girls.

“I’m so grateful for the amplitude of time, effort, and energy Alexa and Avery have dedicated to our program over the last four years,” Watching them grow as players and young women has been a privilege. I have no doubt they will be successful in their future endeavors.
