TAMPICO — Three days over the past weekend, the track outside the Grass Fork Volunteer Fire Department Station in this small southeastern Jackson County community was one of the hottest places to be.
The event, sponsored in part by the Indiana Pulling League was the 58th annual Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire Department Truck and Tractor Pull — and fish fry.
It’s one of the few pulls in the area that is still free to see, and it has been that way from the day the first pull was held. The department uses funds raised through the ever-popular fish fry to help offset operations and equipment costs.
An antique tractor pull was held Thursday evening and Nate Niehoff, Daniel Murphy, Joel Murphy, Devon Niehoff, Charlie Starke and Randy Hedrick took home first place in the events run that night.
On Friday, Kerry Graves won the 16-mph farm stock class. Tim Reiff took the top spot in the light and limited pro stock tractor class. Tory Barter won the 2.6 diesel truck class, while Travis Smith won the hot farm class with his ‘Cornfield Cadillac’ John Deere with a pull of 294.00.
Saturday had a few repeat winners with Barter and Graves returning to the front. This time, Graves won the 14-mph farm stock class, Jason Sutter won the light and limited pro stock, while Michael Peters took the win in the hot farm class.
