BROWNSTOWN — Jackson County Commissioners recently put their stamp of approval on a 132-lot subdivision on Seymour’s far southeast side.

Chad Leinart with Independent Land Surveying, Brownstown, sought and received county approval of streets and drainage plans for a subdivision Arthur Properties, Seymour, is planning in the 3700 block of North U.S. 31, Seymour.

Following an endorsement by county highway Superintendent Jerry Ault who reviewed the plans, commissioners voted 3-0 to sign off on them for the subdivision, which will be named Harvest Meadows. The 23.54-acre subdivision will be developed over three phases, Leinhart said.

In an unrelated matter, county attorney Susan Bevers told commissioners during their meeting Tuesday at the courthouse that there is a possibility Kroger will be settling with opioid plaintiffs and any state with a Kroger store operating in it can participate in the settlement. Jay C Food Stores, which has two stores in Seymour and one in Brownstown, is owned by Kroger.

Bevers asked the commissioners if they would want to participate in the lawsuit and receive additional funds for Jackson County should Kroger settle, and Commissioner Drew Markel said yes.

Ault also presented and opened bids from contractors for projects made possible by the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, a component of Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program.

It was announced in April that Jackson County would receive more than $1.4 million. Seymour also received $1.5 million and Crothersville received $222,079 for street projects. The contractors and their bidders were All-Star Paving $1,533,234.25, Dave O’Mara $1,477,612.50 and Milestone $2,023,082.50.

Commissioner Matt Reedy’s motion to take the bids under advisement was unanimously approved.
