Sectional Golf

Crothersville

The Tigers competed in the postseason on Monday morning at Providence. The meet took place at Covered Bridge Golf Course in Sellersburg.

Floyd Central won the meet with a team score of 294, followed by Corydon Central (297) and New Albany (304). All three of these teams advanced to the Regional on Thursday.

Crothersville didn’t register a team score since they only had two golfers this season. Logen O’Sullivan carded a 106, while Beau Napier finished his round with a 117. O’Sullivan recorded a par on hole-15.

Blaine Beckort of Providence earned medalist honors with the low-score 66.

The Tigers will prepare for the 2024-25 season.

Hoosier Hills Conference Selections

HHC selections were announced for baseball and softball during the past week. Seymour had some represenation from both teams.

Baseball

Jack Pennington, Bret Perry, and Braden Richey all made the all-HHC team for baseball. The Owls finished 15-8 during the 2023-24 season.

Perry recorded 30 hits and drove in 25 RBI’s, while also mashing for a .411 average.

Pennington also swung a hot bat this spring, picking up 25 hits, driving in 17 RBI’s and hitting .431. Pennington had an on-base percentage of .580, and both players had an OPS over 1.200. Pennington hit one home run, while Perry hit two this season.

Richey was dominant on the mound this season, registering 40.1 innings pitched, fanning 60 batters and recording an ERA of 1.39. Richey tossed two complete games and allowed just eight runs in those 40 innings. He also held opposing hitters to a .176 batting average.

Softball

The Lady Owls had two players on the HHC Honorable Mention team this season. Phoebe Underwood and Taylor Stuckwisch both made the team for their play during the 2023-24 year.

Underwood led the team in hits (15), while Stuckwisch followed with (14). Underwood led the Owls in RBI’s (11), while Stuckwisch tied for second with Abby Followell, both recorded seven RBI’s. Followell and Underwood led the team in home runs with two each.

Both girls were the pitchers for Seymour this season. Stuckwisch pitched 45.2 innings, striking out 54 batters and posting an ERA of 2.91. Underwood had an ERA of 4.62, fanning 23 batters in 36.1 innings.

Seymour’s Longmeier part of first Evansville Regional Title

The Purple Aces shocked the nation on Monday evening, defeating the 16th ranked East Carolina Pirates 6-5 in game 3. The win earned the programs first NCAA baseball regional title.

Seymour graduate and Evansville Freshman Charlie Longmeier is apart of the Purple Aces.

Evansville is just the ninth No. 4 regional seed since 1999 to reach a super regional. They will now matchup with Tennessee who’s the No. 1 national seed.

They will face each other this weekend in a best-of-three game series. The first game is on Friday, June. 7th, at 3 p.m.
