CROTHERSVILLE — Seniors Elayna Ord, Lucas Hilton and Elijah Plasse received special awards at Crothersville’s Spring athletic awards program held Wednesday night.

Hilton and Ord received the athletic council’s most Outstanding Senior Athletes Award, and Plasse received the Principal and Coaches Award.

CHS athletic director Jacob Dunn said the outstanding senior award is presented to two top athletes in the senior class, either boy or girl, that have been nominated by the athletic council. This athlete must have obtained at least six varsity letters in at least two sports and accumulated at least 600 points by those standards.

Hilton played basketball, baseball and ran cross country, and Ord played volleyball, basketball and was a cheerleader.

“The principal and coaches award are voted on by varsity coaches and administration personnel. It should be voted according to sportsmanship, coach ability, and the individual’s ability to be a good teammate,” Dunn said.

Plasse played basketball and ran cross country.

Crothersville’s senior and junior high spring sport athletes were honored.

For the varsity girls track awards, Hayden Pilgrim received the Tiger Mental Attitude Award, Jazlin Gibson was named the outstanding runner, Brooklyn Bottorff was named the outstanding field event person, and Hali Bryant received the mental attitude award.

For the boys, Dirk Crater was named the most outstanding runner, Corey Reynolds was named the most outstanding field event person, and Jude Howard was named the most improved.

Coach Matt Otte said the freshmen class deserved the mental attitude award. Those athletes were Koby Davis, Jeremy Mize, Jeremy McQuirt, Howard, Taylor Barger, Brayden Heath, and Clayton McIntosh.

Crater won the 1600 and 3200 in the Southern Athletic Conference meet, and he scored in both in the sectional.

Kinsey Martin received the Tiger Mental Attitude Award in softball, and Zoey Prince received the pitching award and a game ball for setting a school record of 15 strike outs against Cannelton.

Dacie Hughes received the RBI award, Grace Walker received the batting award for hitting .380, and Alexis Caudill was named the most improved.

Golf Coach Donald Conner presented the Tiger Mental Attitude and medalist awards to Logan O’Sullivan, and the most improved award to Beau Napier.

Conner said golf is one of the hardest sports to play, and he felt O’Sullivan and Napier made good progress this year.

The coach said he hopes the number of golfers at Crothersville grows in the future.

O’Sullivan received the Tiger Mental Attitude award in baseball.

Coach Eric Hilton said O’Sullivan gave a lot to the program, as he did some pitching, catching and played other positions as needed.

Crater received the pitching award, and Corey Kelshaw received the most improved award as he had 12 RBIs and a .205 average this spring.

Hilton was named the best all-around player and received the batting award as he hit .371 with 18 RBIs and 29 stolen bases. He led the pitchers in strike outs with 67, and his defensive fielding percentage was .942.

He holds the career record for hits with 71 and stolen bases with 110.

Coach Hilton presented the four seniors, Hilton, O’Sullivan, Nolan Nickell, and Cash Sawyer, with framed jerseys that included their career statistics.

Dunn presented two special plaques at the beginning of the program.

He presented as award to Kathy Sage as the official school statistician and said she had done a lot of research to bring the CHS record books up to date.

Dunn presented Connie Hoskins with a Tiger Award for her dedication to the athletic program. He said she takes tickets at athletic events and does a lot of behind-the-scenes things.
