The Owls hosted Madison and Columbus North on Tuesday evening at Shadowood Golf Course. Seymour finished third with 355, their lowest 18-hole team score of the season.

Owls Head Coach Jim Hoffman spoke about the performance on Tuesday night.

“It’s been a bit up-and-down, more than expected,” he said. “Finally, some consistency is helping. It is nice to see hard work starting to pay off. We have some young men stepping up and knocking strokes off each match.”

The Cubs won the meet with a score of 311, while Columbus North finished second with a score of 339.

Noah Wineinger scored an 84 to lead the team, while Luke Baker recorded a 90 for the Owls. Zarik Black (93) and Jay Herbert (98) both had personal bests with their performances on Tuesday. Paulton Rennekamp rounded out the scores with a 105 for Seymour.

Landon True and Henry Ashley received medalist honors for their scores of 74, both from Madison.

Postseason begins this Monday, as the Owls will travel to Bloomington to compete in Sectionals at Cascades Golf Course.

The competition will take place at 8 a.m. on Monday morning, against other competing schools such as; Bedford North Lawrence, Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Brown County, Brownstown Central, Edgewood, Mitchell, Salem, Trinity Lutheran, West Washington, and Owen Valley.

Coach Hoffman spoke about some keys for the Owls to have success.

“Our focus has to be on the short game,” Hoffman said. “Getting up and down will be crucial at Cascades. That will be our main goal for the next few days, finding a way to get up and down.”

The regional competition is in Washington at Country Oaks Golf Course on Thursday, Jun. 6th at 8 a.m.

Hoffman believes mental focus will help the Owls a lot.

“I really think if we can mentally focus on each hole, block out the bad ones, that we can be more consistent,” Hoffman said. “We have had issues with carry over effect. It is a growth issue and we have seen a better side lately.

“Experience has been key for our competitive rounds,” he said.

Do not worry about purchasing tickets for this event. Admission for golf sectionals and regionals are free. You must purchase a ticket for the IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletic Association) for the state competition only.
