Family-friendly comedy show planned at theater

Jackson County Community Theatre is welcoming back actor, mime, stuntman, comedian, clown, puppeteer and magician Reed Steele for a family-friendly comedy show.

That will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Royal Off-the-Square Theatre, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown.

Steele will also be in town to take part in Jackson County Young Artists’ Theatre’s summer youth theatre workshop.

Steele has performed on stage, television and film, from Los Angeles to New York. He was the recipient of the 1990 Hollywood USO Entertainer of the Year award, working with Bob Hope, Buddy Ebsen, Lee Greenwood and many others. He also created sound effects for films, television and cartoons, working with Mel Blanc, Paul Winchell and Bruce Willis. He also worked with the puppetry of Jim Henson’s Muppets.

He performs professionally with his production company, Saturn V Productions, throughout the country. He has been involved as an actor, director, choreographer, stunt coordinator and dialect coach for many professional stage productions.

Steele is an advocate of arts in education and has been an educator artist for more than 30 years for National Endowment for the Arts, Indiana Arts Commission and Young Audiences of Indiana, New Jersey, New Orleans and Kansas City chapters and collaborated with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

He is a graduate of Ball State University with degrees in education, theater and speech in 1979.

In addition to the arts, Steele is heavily involved in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education and is the director of Saturn V education. He has opened and operated three Challenger Learning Centers in the Challenger Center for Space Science Education network over a 16-year period and served as director of his local CLC for 10 years.

With more than 30 years of experience as an educator, Steele has been working in aerospace education for more than 25 years. He is a former aerospace education specialist for NASA, stationed at NASA Ames Research Center, and served as an aerospace education consultant in Indiana. He has developed aerospace education programs for schools, summer camps, scout organizations and special groups around the country.
