Library offers free summer children’s programs

Jackson County Public Library is celebrating the Summer Learning Program theme “Adventure Begins at Your Library” with programs for children of all ages at the Seymour, Crothersville, and Medora libraries and in other Seymour locations.

Some of the programs require no registration. The Friends of the Library is sponsoring Adventure of the Lost Treasure by Science Heroes at 2 p.m. June 7, at the Seymour Boys Girls Club. Students in grades K-5 can experience an exciting and interactive STEM adventure.

The Friends of the Library also is sponsoring Foam Happy! from 10 a.m. to noon June 21 at Shields Park in Seymour. Children ages 2 to 12 should bring bathing suits, towels and water shoes and must be accompanied by an adult at this program offered in partnership with Seymour Parks Recreation.

Adults, teens, and children of all ages can “Mush!” at 5 p.m. July 1 at the Seymour Library. Karen Land and her Alaskan husky Noggin will share their experience in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. This adventure program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Adventure Sensory Play is 10 a.m. to noon July 16 at Gaiser Park in Seymour. Children ages 11 and under can explore various sensory stations and get messy.

The End of Summer Escape/Bubblefest is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at Shields Park in Seymour. Families with children of all ages can join the library and Seymour Parks Recreation for some bubble fun and bouncy houses.

Several other programs require registration and still have openings or waiting lists, including: Wildlife in Indiana at 5 p.m. July 11 at the Seymour Library. Up to 25 children in grades K-5 will observe different animal furs and learn about Indiana wildlife from the past through the present with Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.

There also will be Crafty Kids program at 4 p.m. June 12 at the Crothersville Library. Registration for grades K-5 is required by Sunday.

A Giant Games: Hungry Hungry Hippos program is planned for 4 pm June 20, at the Medora Library, and at 4 p.m. July 19, at the Crothersville Library. Registration for grades K-5 is required by June 13 at Medora and July 12. Online registration is still available for these programs atmyjclibrary.org/events .
