Gregory Vernon Prange, age 63, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 25, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Mr. Prange had a strong faith and was a lifelong and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, where he served on the Board of Elders. Greg was baptized in Christ on May 28, 1961, and he was confirmed in faith on March 23, 1975.

Greg graduated from Seymour High School in 1979. During his four years as a student at Seymour High School, he played on the football team and the basketball team, which were both South Central Conference champions. Mr. Prange was first team All-Conference in both football and basketball, and he played for the North-South All Star football team. Academically, he graduated in the top 5% of his class.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University in 1983 and a Master of Science in Education from the same institution in 1987. In 1992, he obtained his Education Administration license from Butler University.

In 1984, Mr. Prange began his passion of helping students as a science teacher for 15 years at Seymour High School, where he also served as assistant football coach and assistant basketball coach for 16 years. In 1999, he began his administrative role as assistant principal at Seymour High School for seven years until he became principal of SHS in 2006 and retired after 18 dedicated years of service in October of 2023.

During his tenure, Greg received several honors and awards for his exceptional leadership, including being named the IASP District IX Principal of the Year in 2011 and the SCSC Principal of the Year in 2022. As a result of Greg’s devoted educational leadership, he was most recently inducted into the Hall of Fame at Seymour High School in 2023. Greg thought of Seymour High School as his second home. He was dedicated to the school and to the students, and he spent countless hours committed to benefiting them both. Most recently, he was awarded the governor’s highest honor, State of Indiana Council The Sagamore of the Wabash.

Beyond his role as an educator over the years, Mr. Prange served his community on numerous boards and committees as an officer or member. His extensive service included involvement as Jackson County Councilman (20) years, and memberships on Jackson County Extension Board, Jackson County Ambulance Authority Board of Directors, Seymour Boys’ and Girls’ Club Board of Directors,

Jackson County Visitor Center Board of Directors, Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Indiana Association of School Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and Seymour Rotary Club. He also served as Jackson County United Way drive chairman.

Greg loved and cherished his family dearly, and he was loved beyond measure by each of them. He enjoyed going on vacations, traveling, watching sports, and biking.

Born on May 10, 1961, in Seymour, Greg was the son of Vernon Prange and Patricia (Schwebke) Prange Weasner, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 29, 2016, he married Jill Smith, and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include one son, Skylar Gregory Prange of Seymour; one daughter, Piper (Jeremy) Daulton of Phoenix, Arizona; three stepdaughters: Lauren Railsback of Hawaii, Megan (Drew) Burgess of Asheville, North Carolina, and Valerie (Joe) Reitman of Seymour; one sister, Teresa (Dave) Flint of West Lafayette; five grandchildren: Hudson Gregory Daulton, Camden Daulton, Parker Reitman, Colette Burgess, Mara Reitman and grandson coming in October; and stepmother, Joyce (Kriete) Prange.

Greg was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Dale Weasner.

Funeral services for Gregory Vernon Prange will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg, Pastor Philip Bloch, Pastor Jimmy Rodriguez, and Pastor Will Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium, Seymour, “The Ultimate Graduation”. Visitors should access the parking lot and use Door 15 on Community Drive. Friends may also call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour.

Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Seymour, or Greg Prange Scholarship thru Greater Seymour Trust Fund.
