Marie Pond Greathouse, 74, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; passed away peacefully with her loving husband by her side at their home on her family farm in Marengo, IN. Marie was born in New Albany, IN and grew up in Marengo on the family farm until they moved to North Vernon in 1956 with her late parents Robert (Bob) and Lila Pond. She lived in Jennings County until 1979 when she moved to Crothersville. She then accomplished her goal of living on the family’s 100+ year-old family farm in Marengo, Indiana in 2009. Marie was a 1968 graduate of North Vernon H.S. and Graduated from Versailles Vocational School in cosmetology. Marie worked at Muscatatuck State Mental Hospital before finding her true passion of teaching first aid and CPR with the American Red Cross. First as a volunteer and then as the Safety/ Training Director for Jackson and Bartholomew counties. She was also the operations director for the Red Cross disaster relief and shelters for the floods in Scott and Clark counties in the 90’s. She spent most of her life volunteering and performing community service. A leader for the Girls and Boy Scouts, Eastern Star, American Red Cross and many local organizations. Family was very important to her. Marie loved doing genealogy to learn as much about her family history as possible. She also enjoyed traveling, crafts, and most of all, spending time with her family. Marie was preceded in death by her parents Robert (Bob) Pond (Marengo, IN) and Lila (Houser) Pond (Ft. Wayne, IN) of North Vernon. She is survived by her husband of 44 years Curt Greathouse, Marengo, daughter Amy (Michael) Hunt of Crothersville, her son James “Jamy” Greathouse of Crothersville; Jenny (Daryle) Smith, Paris Crossing, and Robin (Jeff) Gabbard of Seymour, her 8 grandchildren, Jessica Hunt, Jonathan (Tia) Hunt, Aaron Gabbard, Elijah Gabbard, Lillian Greathouse, Addison Greathouse, Klarissa Wilburn, Matthew Wilburn, 7 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel, Delilah, Eli, Cambri, Grant, and Lincoln. Cremation services have been entrusted to Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Crothersville. Memorial donations given in memory of Marie may be given to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (Checks payable to “American Red Cross”) c/o Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 110 East Howard Street, Crothersville, IN 47229.
