Brownstown Central retirees honored during school board meeting

BROWNSTOWN — The seven Brownstown Central Community School Corp. teachers planning to retire at the end of the present school year were recognized May 14 during a board of trustees meeting at the administration office.

Superintendent Tim Taylor introduced each of the retirees, thanked them for their years of service and presented them with plaques.

The retirees and their years of service are Elisa Reed, 25 years; Susie Alstatt, 19 years; Julie Isaacs, 30 years; Karen Ault, 35 years; Derrick Koch, 25 years; Karen Rumph, 16 years; and Tammy Baker, 21 years.

During his report, Brownstown Central High School Principal Joe Sheffer congratulated the school’s science, social studies, math and English academic teams for placing first during a competition on April 16 at Austin High School.

Sheffer also reported 37 students selected by high school teachers were recognized during the annual VIP breakfast on April 18 and 37 units of blood had been donated May 1 during an American Red Cross blood drive at the high school.

He also reported there were no issues during the school’s prom that was attended by more than 250 students on April 14 and Riley Dance Marathon Club also surpassed its $5,000 goal this year by raising $6,648.25.

Doug McClure, Brownstown Central Middle School principal, reported the school’s golf and boys track teams had won conference championships and Lindan Lanier had broken the track records for 100M and 200M and Logan Chavarria had broken the low meter hurdle record.

The board also approved the resignations/terminations of school bus driver Roy Fleetwood, high school English teacher Michael Goltry; high school Science Olympiad co-coach Kasey Proehl; Paul Ruddick who was the Makerspace teacher at the elementary; and Sherry Settle, special needs aide at the high school.

Trustees also approved the appointments of Maria Anderson, elementary cadre coach; Mitchell Banks, technology support specialist; Brahlie Brooks, elementary school night cleaning; Brittany Mills, speech language pathologist; Paisleigh Peters, technology summer help; Emma Winks, high school girls cross country volunteer coach; Kylee Wischmeier, high school girls cross country coach and Science Olympiad co-coach; Kristina Yoho, library media and data specialist; and the summer help employment of Judy Doyle for the corporate office and Shelby Hounshel and Sheryl Jackson for the bus barn.

In unrelated matters, trustees approved an emergency allocation payment $2,357.32 to Harrell Fish Inc., Bedford, for the HVAC repairs and Premier Companies to supply fuel and supplies for the corporation from July 1 to June 30, 2025. The Seymour-based company was the only bidder.
