Medora Town Council discusses town website

During a Medora Town Council meeting Monday evening, town resident Joe Barnes spoke about the town’s forthcoming website.

As opposed to the town using a website building and hosting company such as Squarespace or building the website from scratch, Barnes proposed that the website should be hosted under the state of Indiana.

“I started out by looking at the Town of Crothersville’s website; they use [the state of Indiana] for their web hosting and bill pay,” said Barnes, who also is the chief of the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department. “This will address your online bill pay options and your website options, but it will not address [livestreams] for meetings and stuff like that moving forward, so that’s something we’re still going to have to address.”

Barnes addressed livestreaming because in May 2023, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed into law a bill which requires all government public meetings to be livestreamed or recorded; however, the law does not take effect until July 1, 2025.

The council decided to form a committee to look into things further before making a decision on the state of Indiana hosting the town’s website.

The Medora Town Council meets at 6 pm. on the second Monday of each month at Medora Town Hall, 27 N. Perry St., Medora. Meetings are open to the public and press.
