MEDORA — On Monday, Medora hosted their annual award banquet for the 2023-24 athletic year. All four teams including volleyball, girls’ and boys’ basketball, and girls’ and boys’ track and field were honored for their seasons.
Awards were given out to each team for specific athletic accomplishments. In total, 23 awards were given out across the four varsity teams for the Hornets.
Medora’s boys’ basketball team won 9 games. Other than winning ten games in 2022, that’s the most for the Hornets in a season since 1995-96 under coach James Stewart.
The Lady Hornets went 7-15 on the basketball court, finishing second in the Southern Roads Conference with a 4-1 record. Seven wins under first-year coach Malik Cook-Stroupe is the most for the Hornets since former coach Brad McCammon won 8 games in 2012-13.
The girls were led by seniors Jenna Bowers and Aaralyn Hackney, who both averaged double figures per game in scoring. Bowers averaged 16.4 ppg, while Hackney had 12.2 per contest.
In Volleyball, they also won seven games, going 7-20, but finishing third in the SRC with a 4-3 record. The Hornets fell to Rising Sun in the Sectional semifinal.
In Track and Field, Peyton Spence finished in 19th in the 800-meter run at the Seymour Sectional.
Lilian Hatchett finished in 21st in the shot put competition, while teammate Haylee Sons ended in 27th. Winter Thompson finished 26th in Discus Throw.
The boys competed at the Brownstown Central Sectional. Hudson Johnson had the best finish with an 11th place finish in the 200-meter dash. He also finished in 15th place in the 100-meter dash.
Robert Baughman finished 21st in the shot put competition. He also finished 22nd in the discus. Kade Wright finished in 23rd in the 800-meter run.
