JENNINGS COUNTY — Troopers with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post arrested a 33-year-old Greenwood man Sunday on felony drug and weapons charges.

The arrest occurred when troopers stopped to check the driver’s well-being after his vehicle stalled in the roadway, according to a news release from Sgt. Carey Huls.

Huls, the public information officer with the Sellersburg Post, said Christopher Spall faces a Level 3 felony charge of possession of methamphetamine with a firearm; a Level 5 felony charge of possession of a firearm by a felon with a prior conviction; a Class B misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana; and a Class C misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.

The incident that led to Spall’s arrest started at about 9 a.m. Sunday when Trooper Randal Miller and Probationary Trooper Tyler Busch saw a black Ford SUV stopped on the side of U.S. 50 just west of North Vernon, Huls reported.

The vehicle partially blocked the eastbound lanes, so the troopers stopped to assist, he said.

The driver, later identified as Spall, stated he did not need any assistance; however, the troopers observed signs of possible drug activity in the vehicle, Huls reported.

Troopers then deployed K-9 Bosco, who alerted to the odor of drugs coming from the car.

During a search of the SUV, officers located approximately 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded AR-15-style rifle, marijuana and paraphernalia, Huls said.

Jennings County officers Max Marcoux, Morgan Gabbard and A.J. Roney assisted the troopers during the stop.

All subjects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law, Huls said.
