When Hudson Lang made his third 3-pointer of the third period, it gave the Trinity Lutheran boys a 29-28 lead over Greenwood Christian in the Bollinger Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

Greenwood came back to outscore Trinity 8-2 during the remainder of the period, then the visitors added a 21-12 advantage in the fourth quarter for a 55-43 win.

Trinity coach Mike Lang said his team lost to a good, veteran ball club.

“It was too much experience,” he said. “They’re a good, experienced team. They’re a highly ranked team for a reason.

“We felt the game was honestly decided in the first half when we didn’t get shots to go. That’s part of the game, and the second half, they fell. I told the guys they would have 13 points in the first four minutes, and I think they had 16 points in the first four minutes of the third quarter.”

Both teams started out cold in the first period as Levi Pottschmidt’s 3-point shot gave Trinity a 5-4 lead with 3:36 left.

A rebound basket by Peyton Pollert gave Trinity a 9-8 lead at the end of the period.

Kowan Gross made a free throw early in the second period, but Trinity’s offense went scoreless for over five minutes and Greenwood went on a 12-0 run to lead 20-10.

Charlie Hackman finally made a 3-pointer for Trinity as the Cougars trailed 20-13 at the half. Trinity shot 2-for-13 on 3-pointers in the first half.

Greenwood led 22-15 when Trinity warmed up from the outside as Pottschmidt hit a 3, Lang made three from beyond the arc and Braxton Sinclair drove for a layup and Trinity pulled ahead 29-28 with 3:27 left in the third.

Coach Lang said, “Hudson had some shots go down, Kowan got strong down low when we made the run, but then we had some sloppy turnovers and things got away from us a little bit.”

Greenwood outscored Trinity 27-14 for the remainder of the game. Greenwood finished with seven 3-pointers, and Trinity had six.

Lang topped Trinity (10-11) with 13 points, and Gross had 10 points and six rebounds.

Max Booher topped Greenwood (13-7) with 24 points, and Jordan Taulman added 16.

Trinity will close its regular season Friday at Austin. That game will take place at 7:30 p.m.
