Seymour senior named National Merit Scholarship finalist

Seymour High School has announced Elise Hartung, a member of the Class of 2024, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program finalist.

After being named a semifinalist in the fall, Hartung’s academic record was thoroughly reviewed and evaluated based on information about Seymour High School’s curricula and grading system, national test scores, scholarship recommendations, extracurricular activities and leadership positions. This advancement from a semifinalist places Hartung in a group representing less than 1% of U.S. high school graduating seniors.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. The program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corp., a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.

United States high school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screener of more than 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
