Friends and Neighbors club meets at Seymour church

Six members of the Friends and Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club met Jan. 23 at Cornerstone Community Church in Seymour.

President Ruby Niccum called the meeting to order by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and club creed.

Secretary Helen Lutes led the roll call by asking “What is your favorite indoor activity?” She then read minutes from the two earlier meetings. Donna Abner reported nothing has changed in the treasurer’s balance since June 2023. Both reports were approved.

Niccum informed members their report of community services and dollars spent for the year were due Feb. 1 to Abner. Community services are Clarity, Community Provisions of Jackson County, Little Food Pantries, bake sale items and 4-H T-shirts.

Lutes gave a lesson on eating well for your eyes. She led a discussion about age-related macular degeneration, aka MAD, and good food examples, and she had everyone do a simple screening test using an Amsler grid.

Niccum reminded the group of the upcoming election of new officers and the yearly dues of $15 will be due in March.

Lutes volunteered to serve as hostess for the Feb. 27 meeting. Abner said she would plan a lesson.
