Week 14 of the Lutheran Dartball League is over, and here’s what transpired.
Although they lost a game, Sauers E remains in first place with a record of 28-11. In Game 3 versus the Pastors, the Rev. Craig Muhlbach hit a home run in the seventh inning to prove to be the winning run.
There wasn’t much shuffling at the top since all five of the top teams all lost a game.
The Mets are in second place having taken two from Hayden Methodist. Hayden won the first game 6-4 in 13 innings. Wegan B is tied with the Mets at .667, although they have an extra loss having not reached their bye week yet. Immanuel 1 won two games from Borchers, losing the second game 5-2 in 10 innings.
Immanuel Darty swept Zion 2 by scores of 5-2, 11-2 and 3-2. In the third game, Eric McCoy of Darty got the walk-off hit in the bottom of the 13th inning.
Good matches to watch this week will be Immanuel 1 at Wegan W, Immanuel Darty at Dudleytown D and Sauers B at Brownstown 4.
Dartball scholarships
The deadline for returning scholarship applications is Feb. 15. The scholarships are not judged on financial need or scholastic grades. The applications are judged on the student’s activities within their church, school and community.
This year’s judges are the Rev. Will Fredstrom of Immanuel, the Rev. Ryan Schneider of St. Peter’s and Clayton Darlage, the principal at Trinity Lutheran High School. If you have any questions or need an application, you can call Bob Klosterman at 812-580-8394.
Dartball history
The next team in line with seniority is Wegan B. This year is their 29th year in the league.
In their 28 years, Wegan B has won 768 games and lost 474 for a winning percentage of .618. In those 1,242 games, they have scored 6,302 runs for an average of 5.07 runs a game. Their high game has been 17 runs during the 1999-2000 season. Their high series has been 34 runs in 1975-76. Their overall tourney record is 29-21 with 299 runs scored.
Wegan B’s best year was in 2013-14 when they went 34-8 for a winning percentage of .810 and won the league. Besides winning the league that season, Wegan B has finished runner-up in 2002-03, 2005-06, 2014-15 and 2015-16. They won the third-place trophy in 2009-10, 2016-17 and 2021-22.
They won the league tourney in 2019 and finished runner-up in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2014 and 2020.
For their representative to the Silver Anniversary Team in 2002, Wegan B selected Les Tormoehlen. Les joined Wegan B in 1994. He was like a mentor to some of the younger players and was always a top hitter.
