Seymour man arrested in connection with separate incidents

A 27-year-old Jackson County man faces felony charges stemming from a burglary reported on May 9, 2023, police report.

Zachary A. Moore of Seymour was arrested Saturday on a Level 5 felony for burglary and a Level 6 felony for theft in connection with that incident, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with Seymour Police Department.

The victim told officers responding to the scene someone had entered the backyard though a gate at their residence in the 100 block of South O’Brien Street, Foster said.

He said that person then broke into a garage and took cordless tools, hand tools, a gas trimmer and screws. Patrol officers located evidence at the scene that was later sent to the Indiana State Police Lab for examination.

On Jan. 19, investigators received an investigative lead in connection with that burglary, Foster said, and on Saturday, patrol officers responded to a residence in Seymour regarding a disorderly call.

Foster said during that investigation, police transported Moore to the police station because he was a suspect in the earlier burglary.

Investigators interviewed Moore, and while searching his jacket, they found two spools of wire, Milwaukee job site markers and “plant-like material,” Foster said.

Moore told investigators he took the wire and the job site markers from The Home Depot in Seymour earlier that day.

Police added additional charges of theft, a Level 6 felony, and possession of spice, a Class A misdemeanor, Foster said.

Moore was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:32 p.m. Saturday with his bond pending.
