CROTHERSVILLE — Rising Sun went on a 9-0 run against Crothersville late in Saturday’s game and went home with a 50-42 victory.

Adam Turner hit a 3-pointer from the right wing that left the Tigers trailing 38-37 with 4:56 on the clock.

The Tigers did not score again until Dirk Crater made a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left. By that time, the Shiners held a 48-40 lead.

Tigers coach Bryant Layman said, “We did a good job all game of sticking to the game plan, running the sets, doing the little things. What hurt us late is we went to taking really quick shots. That’s not our style. That’s our style when we’re getting the ball in transition.

“That’s a good basketball team. They play a bunch of 3As and 4As, so that’s a very misleading basketball team. They’ve beat all the opponents in the sectional other than maybe Shawe last night.”

Rising Sun has to play at Medora on Feb. 23.

The Shiners held a 12-10 lead after the first period. Turner scored five points and Beau Napier hit a 3-pointer to lead the Tigers in the opening period.

Tymir Cromwell got hot for the Tigers in the second period as he converted a 3-point play 20 seconds into the period, hit a 3-pointer a minute later and added another basket and free throws later in the quarter for nine points in those eight minutes of action.

Neither team could get any offense going in the third period. Logen O’Sullivan scored a layup two minutes into the period, and Cromwell hit a 3-pointer in the middle of the quarter to give the Tigers a 33-30 lead.

The Shiners didn’t score until Ben Shorten made a layup with two seconds left in the third.

Cromwell topped the Tigers with 13 points and Turner added 10.

The Shiners had balance with Nate Elliott scoring 14, Aiden White 13 and Brody Morris 12. The taller Shiners held a 34-21 advantage in rebounds.

Layman said, “We didn’t rebound. We’re getting better about blocking out, but we don’t drive our defender back. We’re still defending, but we’re forgetting to go grab the ball. We had a good three quarters. I guess that is what is so disappointing.”

The Tigers (5-11) are off until Feb. 6 when they host Edinburgh.

“We’ve got to stick to the game plan. Our boys are not doing a good job of finishing out the game. That’s two nights in a row. We let one go (Friday) night at Trinity,” Layman said. “We let the officials get to us, and I don’t get it. I thought the officials were fair. We’ve just got to make sure we’re a little more mature.”
