Seymour man arrested for child molestation

A Seymour man was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony child molestation after officers received a report he had sexually assaulted a 9-year-old child.

Pablo Fernandez-Ortega, 31, was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

He faces a Level 1 count of child molesting. A Level 1 felony of this offense carries a sentence ranging from 20 to 50 years in prison with an advisory sentence of 30 years if convicted.

According to the incident release from Lt. C.J. Foster, on Jan. 20, officers with the Seymour Police Department received a report of a 9-year-old being sexually assaulted by a 31-year-old male who lived in the same home.

Investigators then had a forensic interview conducted with the child at the child advocacy center Susie’s Place in Bloomington.

On Wednesday, investigators located Fernandez-Ortega and conducted an interview with him. He was booked into the jail at 6:45 p.m. that day and being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
