New reporter ecstatic to write for hometown paper

Good morning, good afternoon or good night.

My name is Jared Reedy, and I am honored to accept The Tribune’s most prestigious award: Most New.

In all seriousness, I am delighted to introduce myself to the Jackson County community as The Tribune’s latest reporter. I could not be more proud of being able to contribute to my hometown paper.

I was actually born in Johnson County and lived in Greenwood for the first seven years of my life. My family moved to Seymour, where my mother and father were both born and raised, in the summer of 2006. Despite where I was technically born, I consider Seymour my hometown.

My writing career began at Emerson Elementary School. When I was in fifth grade, my former second grade teacher, Mrs. Chase, asked me to write a play with an environmental theme for her current class to perform. It involved retrofuturistic, Jetsons-looking robots.

Having always had a predilection for film, literature and journalism above most things in life, I graduated from Indiana University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in media.

My love of journalism stems from my fondness of objective truth. Clear, reliable, honest journalism has always been important, but it has become even more so in the last 35-plus years as mainstream American media outlets (especially on television) have become increasingly opinion-based and personality-driven.

At the beginning of 2023, I was invited to be a contributor to the website of Accelerate Indiana Municipalities, or AIM, formerly known as the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.

I wrote about a smorgasbord of topics for AIM, ranging from the utilization of READI funds for a revamp of the Sullivan city pool to the enticing aromas that draw folks to the Bristol Corn Dog Festival.

My first article for AIM was about the creation of the murals in downtown Seymour. That article was picked up and published in The Tribune.

I made steady contributions to AIM’s website throughout 2023 while working other jobs. This past month, I was able to secure my first full-time writing position with The Tribune.

I am ecstatic to grow my career and make exciting connections here at The Tribune. If you would like to contact me with information about the community (upcoming events, new business ventures, local shenanigans, etc.), please feel free to contact me at 812-528-5894 or [email protected].
