The city of Seymour has submitted its spring 2024 application call for projects for the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program.

Community Crossings is a component of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program. For Indiana cities, towns and counties to qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds of 50% for larger communities or 25% for smaller communities and have an asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges.

This program will match funds to support local road and bridge projects across Indiana.

During a recent Seymour Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, city Engineer Bernie Hauersperger said all road projects estimate a total of 3½ miles with two roads receiving total pavement replacement.

The estimated total cost of all projects is $3,524,403, and Seymour is eligible to request funding from CCMG in the amount of $3,298,493. The rest will be funded by Seymour Water Pollution Control with the remaining funds of $225,910.

If the application is approved, funding will go toward a list of proposed road projects within city limits.

Hauersperger also said construction for the roundabout at Fourth and O’Brien streets is targeted to begin as early as April.
