Decoy foreigner robbed of $35

One man is under arrest and a search is being made for a second man by North Vernon police in connection with a holdup which occurred in the northern section of North Vernon Friday night in which a foreigner, whose name North Vernon police will not release, was robbed of $35 in cash. The holdup was the result of a clever decoy which was planned by the two holdups and Rosa Belle Hunter of North Vernon, who lured her victim to an advantageous point in the city where the robbery occurred.

New model tractor received here

Friendly Sales and Service Corp., 611 W. Tipton St., has announced the arrival of a new model tractor recently brought out by the Minneapolis-Moline Power Implement Co. The new tractor, known as the Model Z, is now on display at the showroom at Friendly Sales and Service Corp., A.F. Brockelman, manager of the company, said.

Police probe area burglary

State police are continuing investigation of a burglary which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Friday at a residence near Reddington.

Tech. Sgt. Paul Jewett of the Seymour state police post said the residence of Mrs. Viola Brown was burglarized by an intruder who gained entrance to the home through a small bathroom window.

No one was at home at the time of the incident, but police said Mrs. Brown, her daughter and son-in-law returned home while the burglary was in progress.

Blaze destroys historical hotel

The cause of an early morning fire on Friday in downtown Seymour that left one person dead and at least four injured remains under investigation.

“We’re bringing in the state since we haven’t had a fire of this magnitude in quite some time,” Seymour Fire Chief Fred Hines said of the blaze at the Centennial Hotel at Jeffersonville Avenue and St. Louis Avenue.
