Rumpke issues holiday schedule, service reminders

Rumpke Waste & Recycling collection will be delayed during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Rumpke service will not occur on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and collection will be delayed by one day each week. Rumpke will return to its regular collection schedule the week of Jan. 8.

The local waste and recycling company expects to see a 25% increase in the amount of material placed at the curb because of holiday giving. Rumpke reminds customers that not everything belongs in the trash or the recycling.

“Items like rechargeable batteries, cooking oil and fire embers can ignite in our trucks and at our facilities, putting our employees and the motoring public at risk, and shouldn’t be placed in trash or recycling,” said Todd Wilson, region safety manager for Rumpke. “Other holiday items, like Christmas lights and ribbons, can get caught in recycling sorting equipment and cause significant mechanical issues, so it is important to stick to the acceptable items list found on recycling containers and at rumpke.com.”
