MEDORA— It was a basketball-filled evening in Medora on Monday night with the Hornets battling Christian Academy of Indiana in boys basketball.

The undefeated Warriors came in and dominated the matchup, leaving with an 81-49 victory over Medora.

Joshua Renfro was detrimental for the Hornets, scoring 45 points in the victory. The junior guard connected on 18 shots, including eight 3-pointers. Joshua Chancey scored 12 as the second leading scorer for the Warriors, and David Cook also was in double figures with 10.

Hornets head coach Mark Morin spoke on the outcome with the Warriors.

“It hurt us not having Eli Lane on the floor along with losing Damian Salas in the second quarter,” Morin said. “Allowing 45 points to Renfro didn’t help us at all, either, but I saw some positives from the team.”

The Hornets hung around only for the Warriors to take control in the second quarter, holding a 29-15 lead with minutes left in the first half.

Salas took an elbow to the face, forcing him out of the game for the rest of the contest.

Christian Academy continued to be on fire from 3-point land, cruising to a 42-20 halftime lead.

The Warriors got the ball to start the second half, going on a quick 4-2 run, forcing the Hornets to call a timeout. It wouldn’t be long before the visitors held a 64-31 lead.

The fourth quarter was a positive for Kacie Inscoe, who came off the bench and provided an offensive spark for the Hornets. Inscoe knocked down two 3-pointers, even with the game in hand, to make it 77-47.

Hudson Johnson and Kade Wright were both in double-digits in scoring with 11 each. Salas was providing an offensive spark with eight points for Medora but didn’t play after exiting the game. Jaxon Nugen followed with seven.

Morin spoke about some positives from the losing effort.

“Two big keys for us were not turning the ball over and not allowing offensive rebounds,” he said. “We kept them at four for the entire game, and I also liked the way we competed until the end, even when we got down big. Christian Academy is a very good team.”

The Hornets will now prepare to face off with the Bulldogs on Friday at Cannelton High School. The matchup is at 7:30 p.m. will follow the Lady Hornets’ varsity game.
