NORTH VERNON The Owls traveled down the road to North Vernon to face off with Jennings County on Saturday morning.

Seymour got the better of the Panthers on both sides, allowing the victory for the Owls. The boys took the win 141-27, while the girls won 128-47.

Owls head coach Dave Boggs spoke on the victory over Jennings County.

“It’s our last meet before we head into Christmas break. Going on the road and getting a win was good to see,” Boggs said. “We can use this as a last gauge heading into holiday training.”

The girls improved to 9-1-1 on the season, while the boys remain undefeated at 12-0.

Maggie Calhoun of the girls team spoke on their performance Saturday.

“I think we all swam pretty well today, and it was a lot of fun,” she said. “I thought I did good on diving. On the 200 individual medley, I was able to get a PR.”

Caden Harriss of the boys team also spoke on the win over the neighboring Panthers.

“I think our team did really well today, boys and girls, and it’s nice to come here on a Saturday morning instead of after a long day of school, just waking up and competing,” he said. “Plus, we always like traveling to other schools, and Jennings is a nice school to compete at.”

Calhoun took first place in the 1-meter diving competition on the girls side, scoring 132.45. She spoke about her improvement in the event over the years.

“I think I’ve gotten a lot better since my first year, especially in diving,” Calhoun said. “I’ve come a long way, even this year through the first few weeks.”

Harriss took first place in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking 25.15.

“I think I did pretty good. I didn’t set any personal records or anything, but we still had a solid day of swimming,” he said. “I’m still proud of myself for how I competed, and I’ll have some things to work on for the next time we compete. That’s the point of meets, to get better.”

Boggs is content with the improvement of his boys and girls teams. He mentioned they are right on track.

“We’ve shown a lot of improvement so far this season. We’re getting into shape and cleaning up our details,” Boggs said. “We are progressing as we should.”

The Owls will now get a few weeks off before they compete again. Seymour will wait until after the new year to host Floyd Central at 10 a.m. Jan. 6.
