Roy Thomas “Tom” Barnett, age 78, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at The Lutheran Community Home.

Tom was born in Frankfort, KY on August 9, 1945, to the late Roy and Lillian (Newton) Barnett. He was a 1963 graduate of Seymour High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1965-1971 earning a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Sharon Jo Parker Barnett, who survives. In 1991, Tom retired as a police officer from the city of Seymour after over 22 years of service. He then went to work for an additional 11 years with the Jackson County Courthouse Prosecutors Office. Tom was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the VFW. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved and adored his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sharon Jo Barnett; his son, Jason Barnett (Deidre) of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Parker Barnett and Spencer Barnett, both of Indianapolis; five nieces and several cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Tom will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 12:30PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 504 N. Walnut St., Seymour, IN, 47274. The family will receive guests at the church from 9:30AM until the time of service. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
