Girls basketball

Trinity Lutheran

The Lady Cougars traveled to Southwestern Shelby on Saturday to face off with the Spartans.

Trinity came in with a 1-2 record on the season with Southwestern still looking for its first win at 0-5.

The Cougars came to play, dominating the opposition by 29 points. Trinity won its second game of the year with the final score of 61-32. Liza Froedge led the way for the girls with 16 points and five steals.

Madison Keith also had a big day, scoring 14, grabbing nine rebounds and swiping four steals. Laura Roeder scored 10 points with five steals.

Jordan Brewer grabbed three steals to go along with nine points. Zoey Dulaney added five points, Bailey Bonde scored three and Marley Warren and Morgan Brewer both added two points.

The Lady Cougars will now prepare to face Edinburgh on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Seymour

The Lady Owls hosted Greensburg on Saturday afternoon in girls basketball.

Seymour dropped the contest to the Pirates 57-40.

Seymour fell to 4-2 on the 2023 season and will be back in action on the road Tuesday. The girls will face off with the Bloomington South Panthers at 7:30 p.m.

Brownstown Central

The Lady Braves were back in action against a tough Scottsburg team on Friday.

The girls fell to the Warriorettes in overtime 57-52.

It was the first loss of the season for Brownstown. Both teams were tied at 51 heading into the extra period, but the Warriorettes outscored the Braves 6-1 in the overtime to secure the win.

On Monday, however, the IHSAA ruled that Scottsburg violated the quarter limit for one player in a game. The player played in six quarters with the limit being five. The IHSAA discovered the player broke the infraction, giving the Lady Braves the victory. Therefore, Brownstown is undefeated on the season at 5-0.

The JV Lady Braves picked up the win, defeating Scottsburg 43-28.

Crothersville

The Lady Tigers picked up the first win in the Curtis White coaching era on Saturday, narrowly defeating Columbus Christian 35-33.

Crothersville fell behind early, trailing 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tigers rallied, still trailing 13-11 at halftime, eventually taking the narrow 22-20 lead to end the third period. Crothersville hung on for its first win of the season, improving to 1-6 in 2023.

The girls will host Christian Academy of Madison at 6 p.m. today.

Boys basketball

Crothersville

The Tigers had a tall task on Saturday, traveling to face the second-ranked team in Class A in Orleans. The Bulldogs defeated Crothersville 73-25.

Orleans took an early 14-5 lead after the first quarter, turning that into a 42-12 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs never looked back and took the win over the Tigers.

The JV Crothersville team lost to the Bulldogs 65-13.

Brownstown Central

Brownstown Central opened its season with Providence on Saturday evening.

The Braves dominated the second and third quarters, getting out to a 55-33 lead after the third. Brownstown held down the lead, winning 68-55.

Leading the way for Brownstown was Jack Benter, torching the defense for 33 points, shooting 11-14 from the free throw line and 4-8 from three-point range.

Adam Stahl recorded 10 points for the Braves, and six points came from Parker Hehman, Chace Coomer and Colby Hall. Gregory Hutcheson and Pierson Wheeler each recorded three points with Micah Sheffer scoring one in the win.

Noah Lovan led the way for the Pioneers, scoring 33 points in the loss. Lovan was 10-11 from the free throw line.

The JV Braves defeated Providence 51-46.

Brownstown will now focus on playing Salem on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at home.

The Hornets opened their season against Shawe Memorial on Tuesday evening.

Medora dropped the contest with the Hilltoppers 51-33.

The team will now prepare to face off against Lighthouse Christian next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
