Santa Claus is coming to town: Check out where he’s going to be around Jackson County

Santa Claus is going to be a busy man attending multiple events in Jackson County in December.

Dec. 2

Santa will be in the Medora Christmas parade at 1 p.m. and the Crothersville Christmas parade at 5:30 p.m. Selfies with Santa and Cookies with Mrs. Claus will follow the Medora parade at the senior citizens center, and Cookies with Santa will follow the Crothersville parade at Hamacher Hall.

The Jackson County Chamber will welcome Santa to town during Christmas at Crossroads from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park, 101 E. Tipton St., Seymour. The event will feature visits with Santa, reindeer, lighting of the city Christmas tree, music and dancing from local talents and more.

Dec. 4 to 8

Santa will be visiting Seymour neighborhoods on a Seymour Fire Department firetruck beginning at 5 p.m. He will follow the trash schedule, so if your trash day is Monday, Santa will be coming by on Monday. This is a rolling tour, so he will not be stopping, but he will be tossing candy canes. A link will be shared on the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page so people can follow Santa in real time to know where he is.

Dec. 7

Brownstown Ewing Main Street’s Hometown Christmas will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Courthouse, 111 S. Main St., Brownstown. Santa will arrive on a Jackson County REMC lineman truck. The event will feature visits with Santa and reindeer, hot chocolate and cookies.

Dec. 9

The Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department’s third annual Breakfast with Santa is from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Rockford station, 2112 High St., Seymour. Pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, juice, milk and coffee will be served.

Santa will be in the Santa House at Crossroads Community Park, 101 E. Tipton St., Seymour, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids can stop by to share their wish list and take pictures.

A children’s Christmas festival and craft show are planned for 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Christian Church, 915 Kasting Road, Seymour. It will feature craft vendors, a Polar Express train display, letters to Santa, photos with Santa, family photo booths, face painting, craft activities for children, giveaway tables, a wagon ride to the Grinch house, hot cocoa, hot cider, treats, children’s games, a fire pit, sand art, the Patriot Pizza food truck, Christmas lights and Christmas characters. All children’s activities are free, and purchases can be made at the food truck and with the vendors.

Santa will be riding on a firetruck around neighborhoods in Redding Township starting at 6 p.m. If you would like to see Santa and he doesn’t come past your house, go to the Trinity Lutheran High School parking lot around 6:15 p.m.

Dec. 16

Santa will be visiting the Jackson County History Center while the Festival of Trees is open from noon to 8 p.m. at the center, 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown. People are invited to bring their camera or cellphone to take pictures with him for free.

The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department’s Christmas Lights Parade will travel along North Chestnut Street, Fifth Street and Indianapolis Avenue in Seymour, starting at 5:30 p.m. Free registration must be done by Dec. 8 by calling 812-522-6420 or visiting seymourin.recdesk.com/community/program. All entries must have lights. No animals or Santas are allowed, and candy cannot be thrown.

The Southern Indiana Truck Convoy is looking for semis (bobtails only), dump trucks, utility trucks, firetrucks and any others that have a Department of Transportation number to participate in the parade. The cost is $30 per truck and includes a swag bag. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. To preregister or be a sponsor, call 812-621-3067. Proceeds will benefit The Arc of Jackson County.

After the parade, there will be games and activities for kids and the Fraternal Order of Police Donald M. Winn Lodge 108 will have free hot chocolate in the B&O Railroad Parking Lot behind the Knights of Columbus. People also can watch a fireworks show from there.

Old-Fashioned Christmas will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Museum Center, 220 N. Chestnut St., Seymour. Tickets are $15 per child or four for $50 and may be purchased at Artistic Impressions and the Jackson County Visitor Center in Seymour or by leaving a message at 812-524-9665. The event will feature a live Nativity, strolling carolers, historic displays, antique toys, working model railroads, holiday décor, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Christmas stories and children’s crafts.

Cookies and Cocoa with Santa is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department, 6843 N. County Road 400E, Cortland. Visit with Santa, take pictures and enjoy cookies and cocoa.

Dec. 19

Cookies and Milk with Santa will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center, 107 S. Chestnut St., Seymour.

Dec. 22

Santa will be in the Santa House at Crossroads Community Park, 101 E. Tipton St., Seymour, from 6 to 8 p.m. Kids can stop by to share their wish list and take pictures.
