BROWNSTOWN — The Brownstown Central Community School Corp. board of school trustees recognized the Braves of the Month during a meeting Tuesday evening at the administration office.

They are senior Audrey Scarlett, seventh-grader Jalyn Huddleston and fifth-grader Brantley Stevens.

Brownstown Central Middle School Principal Doug McClure said Huddleston was selected for Brave of the Month recognition by the seventh grade teaching team.

“Jalyn exemplifies the qualities of respect, responsibility and resourcefulness each day at BCMS,” he said while reading the teachers’ nomination letter.

Jalyn’s teachers describe her as trustworthy and hardworking, he said.

“She is helpful and polite to her teachers and classmates in the classroom,” the teachers wrote. “Jalyn has a positive mindset, completing her homework daily, no matter how challenging the work. She is engaged in the classroom and always gives her best effort. She is a student-athlete, as well.”

The seventh grade teachers also appreciate her friendliness and smile, McClure said.

He said on a personal note, Jalyn always comes to school every day with the most pleasant disposition with a great smile ready to go.

“She’s just an outstanding young lady,” McClure said.

Brownstown Central High School Principal Joe Sheffer said Scarlett was selected as Brave of the Month by the social studies department.

“Audrey’s dedication to make herself a better student shows every day in her approach to assigned tasks and the positive attitude she demonstrates in the classroom,” he said while reading the nomination letter written by the teachers.

“Each year, Audrey has challenged herself by enrolling in numerous AP level and dual credit courses offered by BCHS,” Sheffer said.

The teachers also thanked Audrey for serving as a positive role model for her fellow students.

Brownstown Elementary School Principal Marty Young said Stevens was nominated as Little Brave of the Month by physical education teacher Jennifer Schneider.

“I chose Brantley as Little Brave of the Month for PE because he has a love for sports and is competitive,” Young said while reading Schneider’s nomination letter.

“The thing I appreciate the most about his competitiveness is that he plays fair and is honest. Brantley is a team player and shows respect to his classmates and teachers,” Schneider wrote. “I have enjoyed having him at the elementary school and enjoyed watching him excel in sports and fitness. He has truly grown into a kind young man. Keep being you, Brantley. As we say here at BES, ‘Work hard and be nice. That will take you far in life.”

Young said Brantley is a wonderful student to be around.

“Any time I get to spend time with Brantley, he impresses me with his actions,” Young said. “He is a hard worker and always trying to do his best. I enjoy his competitiveness and always wanting to be a winner. Great job, Brantley. We are proud of you at BES, and so go do great things.”
