Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign begins Saturday

A Jackson County Christmas tradition is The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Each year, community members volunteer to collect donations in the red kettles.

Donations provide needed help for Jackson County families throughout the year through the Jackson County Service Extension Unit, according to a news release from Gordon Hoag, The Salvation Army Indiana Division’s southern regional liaison.

“It is the Red Kettle volunteers that make Salvation Army’s service to Jackson County possible. When volunteers are at the red kettle, shoppers donate generously. God bless you as you serve your community by ringing the red kettle bell,” Hoag said.

Red kettles are located at Walmart Supercenter, 1600 E. Tipton St., Seymour.

Volunteers may participate by scheduling bell ringing shifts at registertoring.com. The website allows volunteers to choose a date and a location, see available shifts and choose their desired time. Be sure to specify which door is preferred, grocery or pharmacy. Two-hour shifts are recommended. Suggestions for successful ringing are available on the website.

Last year, more than 155 volunteers participated in raising $12,828.03 during 147 hours of ringing at Walmart. Individuals and groups are always welcome to ring.

Last year’s groups included Aisin USA Manufacturing Inc., Seymour First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Seymour, St. Ambrose Catholic School, Trinity United Methodist Church, the city of Seymour, Seymour Rotary Club, American Heritage Girls, YoJack, Cub Scouts Pack 529, Jackson County United Way, Boys & Girls Club of Seymour and Radio 96.3 WJAA.

The Red Kettle Campaign will begin Saturday. Two-hour ringing shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ringing will continue through Dec. 23 (excluding Sundays and Thanksgiving).

The Jackson County Service Extension Unit of The Salvation Army is based at Human Services Inc. in Seymour. Monies are disbursed according to Salvation Army guidelines on a monthly basis. Through October, 170 individuals have been assisted in 2023. The local Salvation Army can be contacted at 812-522-8718.
