Virginia “Jennie” Oathout Allman, 82, of Columbus, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at her residence. Jennie was born August 15, 1941, to the late Jack Hamilton and Clara Mae Mather Oathout. Jennie graduated from Cortland High School in 1959, where she enjoyed activities such as first majorette, cheerleading, and working as a carhop at the Frost Stop. Jennie went on to marry the love of her life, Fred, on September 6, 1959, at Cortland Christian Church, and they recently celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Jennie and Fred moved to Columbus in 1959, and in recent years enjoyed a second residence in Long Boat Key, Florida. Jennie and Fred were long-time members of First Christian Church.

Jennie was a homemaker for most of her life, but did work as a Deputy County Clerk for eight years, and also worked in the credit department at Sears. Jennie enjoyed volunteering at Love Chapel Ecumenical Society and First Christian Church, especially in the nursery. Jennie was a member of Modern Homemakers for many years as well as the Ladies of Jackson Masonic Lodge 146. Jennie frequently entered craft projects in the Bartholomew County 4H Fair. Jennie never passed up a bargain and loved to shop at garage sales, antique shops, and thrift stores. Jennie and Fred were avid travelers and visited all 50 states and many countries on a variety of trips and cruises throughout their lives together.

Jennie is survived by her life partner and husband, Fred of Columbus, her daughters Audrey Ann (Steven) Allman-Demino of Winter Haven Florida, and Kelly Jean (Greg) Allman-Jessup of Nashville, and her son, Scott (Sandra) Handt-Allman of Columbus; and her grandchildren, Andrew Demino, Trevor Jessup, Travis Jessup, Matthew Allman, and Megan Allman. Jennie enjoyed caring for and spoiling her grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandson.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Stephen Oathout and Dennis Oathout.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Franciscan Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, and also on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services for Jennie will be held at 11 a.m. Jennie will be laid to rest at Whites Chapel Cemetery.
