Local Boys & Girls Club receives national award

The Boys & Girls Club of Seymour has been honored as the 2023 League of EAGLES Gold Award winner.

Board President Gary Green accepted the award on behalf of the club and board members during the recent Midwest Leadership Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.

This makes two consecutive years Seymour has been selected for the national award through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

“Being a board member for the Boys & Girls Club is way more than showing up to some meetings and having your name on letterhead. It is a true commitment to our kids and our community,” said Ryon Wheeler, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Seymour. “They invest their time, talents and treasures while leading and governing the organization. Board members are the X factor when it comes to fulfilling our mission.”

The League of EAGLES award is a national recognition program for a board of directors for achieving a set of standards that provide an outcome-based assessment of the board’s responsibilities and impact for the club in the following performance areas:

Engage – Attendance at board meetings

Ask – Make face-to-face solicitation(s)

Give – Contribute personal unrestricted gift(s)

Lead – Assure the organization has a strategic plan

Evaluate – Are evaluated based on performance criteria

Serve – Actively serve on a committee or task force

“An organization can never be transformative and great without a high-performing board of directors,” Wheeler said. “I’m thrilled our national organization has recognized this group for their hard work and much-deserved recognition for all they do for the kids in our community.”

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Seymour is to empower all young people, especially those who need the club most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Along with the site in Seymour, the club has locations in Brownstown and Jennings County.
