Southern Indiana man killed in Scott County crash

A southern Indiana man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday in Scott County, state police report.

Sgt. Tracy Spencer from the Sellersburg Post is investigating the incident that led to the death of James C. Lasher, 48, of Underwood, according to a news release from Sgt. Carey Huls

Huls, the public information officer for the Sellersburg Post, said shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Spencer was alerted to a possible crash on South Boatman Road, a short distance south of West Lake Road.

Authorities were informed of the possible crash by an automated alert from an Apple iWatch, Huls said.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, Spencer said Lasher was driving a gray 2014 Chevrolet Cruze southbound on Boatman Road when for an unknown reason, the car traveled across the northbound lane and off the east side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Lasher was unresponsive and rushed to Scott Memorial Health in Scottsburg, where he was pronounced deceased after arriving, Huls said.

There were no other passengers, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.  Investigators believe a medical event may have initiated the crash.

Personnel with Scott County Emergency Medical Services, the Vienna and Scottsburg fire departments and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the crash.
