Workers who have experienced a company layoff may be eligible for free training and additional lifetime employment benefits even if they are currently working.

Three open houses, including one from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 in the meeting room of the Jackson County Public Library, 303 W. Second St., Seymour, are planned for those interested in learning more.

Federal funds are available for qualifying workers through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. Benefits include training and job search assistance.

Trade Adjustment Assistance program case managers will be available to meet with workers impacted and determine eligibility during the open houses.

If eligible, workers can begin training to earn a post-secondary credential, associate degree or higher at no cost.

The other open houses are planned from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Community Learning Center, 1707 N. Shelby St., Salem, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at The Commons, 300 W. Washington St., Columbus.
