Lutheran Dartball league opens 71st season; Results from Week 1

Welcome to the 71st year of the Lutheran Dartball League.

Do you have a guess which team has been in the league the longest? Last year, the league added three teams and opened the league to non-Lutheran teams with the addition of Hayden Methodist. Hayden has been a great addition to the league. So on to Week 1, and if you guessed Dudleytown N, you would be correct.

This year marks the start of Dudleytown N’s 69th year in the league. Dudleytown was one of the original five teams in the league, joining Jonesville, Wegan, Redeemer and Sauers. After two years of league play, Dudleytown added a second team to the league, Dudleytown S. Dudleytown N has been in the league every year since the beginning in 1954. Through the first 68 years, their overall record is 1,811-2,044 for a .470 winning percentage.

Their best finish was in 1992-93 when they were 38-22 for a .633 winning percentage. Their best finish in the league was fifth place on six different occasions. Their highest scoring game has been 25 runs on two occasions. Their best three-game series has been 42 runs.

Although Dudleytown N has never won the league, it has a reputation for being a good tourney team. They lead all teams with five tournament championships along with three other teams. Early on, Dudleytown N dominated the tourney, winning three of the first six tournaments. They recorded championships in 1955, 1956, 1958, 1970 and 1977.

Up until last year’s tourney, Dudleytown N had reached the final game five times and won all five games. Last year, they were runner-up to Borchers, leaving them with a championship game record of 5-1.
