Braves of the Month for September recognized

BROWNSTOWN — The Brownstown Central Community School Corp. board of school trustees recognized the Braves of the Month during a meeting Tuesday evening at the administration office.

They are junior Claire Schepman, eighth-grader Madison Darlage and fourth-grader Charlie Barnard.

Brownstown Central High School Principal Joe Sheffer said Schepman was selected as Brave of the Month by German teacher Angie Sibrel.

“Claire Schepman is an outstanding student who approaches academics with integrity and kindness,” Sheffer said while reading Sibrel’s recommendation letter. “She excels in her schoolwork while respecting the principles of academic honesty. She always does what is right, even if that is a more challenging path. In addition, Claire is the first classmate to offer help, and she treats everyone with kindness and respect. Congratulations on her positive impact on BCHS.”

Brownstown Central Middle School Principal Doug McClure introduced Darlage and said she was selected for Student of the Month honors by the eighth grade teachers.

Those teachers said she is a very conscientious worker in her daily assignments and consistently completes high-quality work. Not only is she an excellent student academically, they said she is always polite, kind and considerate of others.

“She is a very mature and responsible student who takes her learning and education seriously. We appreciate Madison’s efforts and attitude on a daily basis and congratulate her on earning this honor,” the teachers wrote.

“I would just second all the sentiments the eighth grade teachers have said about Madison,” McClure said. “She truly is one of the kind of kids you want to have in your school who is able to lift the spirits of other people, who works hard, who contributes. She’s kind of soft spoken, but when she does speak, you really kind of perk up to see what she has to say. She just comports herself in a kind of very mature way. She’s going to do well.”

Mendy Stahl, an art teacher at Brownstown Elementary School, selected Barnard for Little Brave of the Month.

Principal Marty Young read Barnard’s nomination letter written by Stahl.

“She is an amazing art student and is a pleasure to have in class,” Stahl wrote. “In addition, her projects and artwork are outstanding every week. Her work always shows creativity, originality and hard work, and I love that she is confident enough as an artist to put her own spin on some of our projects. I look forward to seeing her finished projects each week. She is definitely deserving of the honor of BES art Little Brave.”

Young said Barnard is a fun student to be around.

“She is always smiling and working hard,” he said. “Charlie puts full effort into everything she does and displays our Brave Way initiative at all times. She is always showing kindness and respect to others. We are lucky to have Charlie at BES.”
